GREAT NEWS …. COCO IS HOME. Coco is a rescue from Istanbul, Turkey and she joined Lyndaw Wawryk of Skokie, IL this weekend.

Coco has waited a long time to find her family and I know she is where she belongs and that fate united Lynda and Coco. Lynda had just lost her GSD the prior week after a long happy life together. Lynda had a hole in her heart and longed for the pitter patter of her four legged friend. She saw CoCo and immediately knew without hesitation that CoCo was meant to be with her. This truly is a case of “Who rescued who?” The way it should be both parties fulfilling a special place in each others heart and making both of their lives better. A joyous union. During the adoption it was hard to get Lynda’s attention to go over the paperwork as the “love affair” had started and Lynda had a hard time taking her focus off of CoCo. So touching.

Thank you to Seda Cinar for rescuing this sweet girl and for taking such good care of her these last two years. CoCo will be eternally grateful as will Lynda.

You too can save a life.

Pre-Adoption Post – My Name Is Coco
I am a stunning, lushly-coated, 2 ½ year old shepherd mix girl from Istanbul, Turkey, and I have a question for you. What would you do if you found a box of puppies on your doorstep? In Turkey, the answer is often cruel, and kind answers are never easy. I know, because I was one of those little fluff-balls in the box, the sad one with a hurt leg and pretty black mask, and for more than 2 years, my future has remained a question mark. But finally, I hear I have a wonderful fate waiting just ahead…I am flying to Chicago on October 5 to find my forever home!

If people in Turkey want a large dog as a pet, they want a purebred dog, so it is nearly impossible to find good adoptive families for mixed breed dogs like me and my brothers and sister, no matter how beautiful or smart. There are many thousands of homeless dogs but only a handful of animal shelters, and puppies thrown out on the street stand no chance. Many dogs are dumped in the forests outside of Turkey’s major cities, or worse, shot or poisoned and left to die painful deaths.

Luckily, the woman who opened her front door and discovered the 4 of us knew of a wonderful dog rescuer to help with her predicament, Seda Cinar. Seda looked outside the box in a big way, and was able to find a perfect home for my sister in Seattle, and wonderful homes in Miami for my brothers. My broken leg was mended, and I can now run without pain or problems, and believe me, I’m more than ready to make my own leap!

Seda has 6 big dogs of her own, and has taken good care of me and all of her other rescues, but my experiences have been constrained by circumstance. I have been living as a foster dog for all of this time, in an outdoor run with daily access to a big beautiful yard, but no walks beyond the house or car rides. I haven’t had opportunities to meet any children or cats, walk much on a leash, or be house-trained (I do keep my area clean). I love bigger dogs, but puppies aren’t my thing, and I want space when I’m eating my food. I have not shown any aggression towards people and am well-behaved during grooming, and I’m already spayed and current on all my vaccinations. With so much to learn about in this great big world, I am looking for an enthusiastic and patient teacher.

As for my name, I am definitely more hot cocoa than nut, custom-made for Midwestern winters. In my favorite dream, I’m keeping you cozy on the sofa, while we watch TV in front of a warm fire. I am an excellent leaner, and when I look up at you from your side, I will make you feel like the queen or king of the universe. My best friend and kennel buddy Luna flew to Chicago in July and found her loving home, and now it is finally my turn!
