Hey there! My name’s Kenzi. I’m a 6 1/2 month-old desi dog, the handsome son of a mama straight off the streets of Gurgaon, India. My puppydog eyes can make anyone melt, and with my black nose, white-muzzled black head, and white body with scattered polka dots, I’m off the charts cute! Unfortunately, my looks did diddly-squat to find me a family in India. Hence, I’m all set to the commence my journey to the USA! My rescuer and fairy-godmother, Jyoti, tells me I’ll find my forever people there to kiss, cuddle, and pester without hesitation, and love without reservation.

I am destiny’s child and had a rough beginning. My mama, Hope, met with a terrible car accident on a busy road. Jyoti found her unconscious, bleeding, and barely clinging to life, and rushed her to a veterinary emergency hospital. It was over 6 hours before my mama regained consiousness, and she remained in critical condition for several days with skull fractures and a dislocated jaw. Once Mama stabilized, the doctor found out she was pregnant with me and my other siblings! Isn’t she a woman of steel? A month later she delivered six beautiful babies, me being the cutest of them all!

In between racing and wrestling sessions with my sisters and brothers, I’ve been learning all the “good puppy!” stuff: housetraining, walking on a leash, and how to enjoy quiet time in my crate. Just to show how serious I am about my quest, I let the vet neuter me, give me lots of shots, and put a really long number called a microchip under my skin. Now, through my fairy-godmother Jyoti’s partnership with ISDF,  I’ll be flying to Chicago along with my mom and my sisters Goji and Sugar. My siblings Obi, Pinto, and Sriracha beat us there by a month. All six of us pups are exuberant and healthy, and ready to begin the really awesome part of our lives. Aren’t you?

Desi (day-see) dogs live on the city and village streets of India, with an estimated 400,000 in the capital Delhi, alone. Also called Indian Native Dogs or Pariah Dogs, these dogs have changed little over thousands of years. Desi dogs are highly intelligent, alert, good-looking, athletic, and full of character. Many urban Desi dogs have recent European breed ancestry too, along with sighthound sleekness and speed. It’s ironic that these incredibly adaptable, resilient, regal dogs have to look outside India to find adoptive homes, while status-conscious Indians buy “purebred” foreign dogs ill-suited the climate and conditions.
