GREAT NEWS….Lucky is HOME!!

Lucky is a rescue from the streets of Tunisia. Probably bought at a pet shop and put to the streets when the owners decided having a dog was too much work. The concept of Pet ownership is very different in Tunisia and there are no shelters to surrender a dog to. They are simply left to fend for themselves on the street. Most will be shot by police officers and not survive long.

Thanks to Azza Malalk of Yasmine Azaeiz Animal Rescue Lucky was Saved from this horrible fate.

Yesterday Lucky’s dreams came true and he found his forever home that can offer him the environment he needs to thrive.

Lucky joined Ken Yandell of Milwaukee Wisconsin. Lucky reminds him of his previous dog and they share a special connection. Ken was thrilled to have found him and to welcome Lucky to his home. It took Lucky awhile but he found HIS people.

Thank you Azza and Yasmine for rescuing this sweet boy and giving him this precious opportunity. Thank you to Kelly Kallahan for fostering him and loving him. Most importantly thank you to Ken Yandell for opening your heart and home to this very special boy.

You too can save a life.

#ISDF #YasmineAzaeizAnimalRescue #iSavedaLife#TunisianDogsRockLucky is an adorable, nearly five year old poodle mix. He has soulful eyes, eyelashes for miles and a fancy plume of a tail. He’s completely housebroken and crate trained. With a cheerful “crate up” and a few of his favorite peanut butter treats he eagerly settles in. He knows sit, down, off and stay…though sometimes staying for more than a couple of minutes is hard! He’s loves a good game of fetch and dutifully drops the ball/toy/frisbee/whatever in anticipation of the next throw. He also dances a bit and can spin on his hind legs. He likes to take the lead on leash but doesn’t pull. He’s not fond of seeing other dogs but a few treats thrown on the ground distracts him and keeps him moving along. He doesn’t much care for the groomer or the vet but he’s improving and accepts muzzling when helpful.

Lucky’s story began in Tunisia where he was rescued from presumed abandonment and cared for in foster care with about 50 other dogs. There he followed his foster mom and often slept with her. He arrived in the U.S. in February and went directly to his new adoptive family. Sadly, Lucky seemed to be dealing with anxiety and conflict aggression causing him to occasionally snap. His nice new owners consulted with a veterinary behaviorist and came up with a management and training plan. When their new baby arrived in late summer, however, they realized with the demands of a newborn they would not be in a position to spend the time needed to continue Lucky’s training and they made the difficult decision to allow Lucky to be rehomed. Once rehomed, his new family observed his anxiety and resulting snapping and consulted with the behaviorist to continue the training his previous family had started. Lucky became comfortable with his new home and family and, using the training and management techniques, the snapping episodes faded away. But Lucky’s new family often had unannounced visitors sometimes including small children and dogs. Because of his history the behaviorist and trainer recommended Lucky be crated before children or dogs arrive but his family realized structuring their visitors in their busy home wouldn’t be possible and sadly decided they would not be able to keep him either.

Lucky needs an adults only suburban or rural home where he is the only dog, preferably with owners with some experience who are willing to continue working with a behavior professional. He is not suitable for a home with children. In spite of having lived with many dogs before, he hasn’t done well with other dogs since arriving in February, so he should be the only pet. The families who have taken care of him are incredibly fond of him and each in their own way regret their life circumstances prevent them from being Lucky’s forever home. As time has passed we have learned more about the best environment for him and we’re sure this handsome boy will be on his way to his forever home soon.

He is up to date on all of his shots, having been given the full panel in October. Full medical records will be provided.
