GREAT NEWS…. Indy …aka Mickey is HOME!!! Indy was rescued from the streets of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and today has officially joined the family of Dana and Paul Cecil of Janesville, WI. Indy now has a K-9 sister whom she loves and spends lots of time playing with. Dana and Paul had been looking for a long time to find the right companion for their dog and the right family addition for them. Indy sounded great, right size, right temperament, adorable … But will he get along with their sometimes feisty pooch and their two cats?

They came out last Saturday to meet Indy and do introductions. The two dogs got along well and we’re playing together by the end of visit. So they took Indy home for a foster trial period to make sure good fit.

Well as expected it did!! They love Indy and he has proven to be the perfect addition to their family. Hooray!!

Thank you to Wani Mutiah and all the great people at Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better for rescuing this sweet girl and making this miracle possible.

Most importantly thank you to Dana and Paul Cecil for opening your hearts and home to Indy!!

Pre-Adoption Rescue Story

Two years ago, Mickey was part of a litter of motherless puppies rescued in Port Klang, the largest port of Malaysia and its main gateway to the sea. Where ocean meets land, many jetties project far out into the sea welcoming ships from near and far.
At the base of one jetty, a street dog mother had given birth to six small babies but was nowhere to be seen. We can only guess what fate befell her. Was she too weak to mother such a large litter, and did she perish or simply abandon her brood? Was she chased off by someone with ill intentions, or frightened off accidentally? Was she hit by a car and too injured or too disoriented to survive or return? Like so many street dogs all over the world, her story is a mystery, and likely – a tragedy.
Luckily, her babies knew the paint of a much more fortunate brush…
An urgent private message went out to Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better. A Good Samaritan had found the six babies, weak and helpless and in desperate need.
MDDB answered the call, picking up the puppies as quickly as possible. They were tiny, at just four weeks old, and amazingly, all were still alive.
Five of the puppies were normal in size, though starving hungry, but one – Mickey – was a wee little runt. In fact, to this day, she is the smallest still.
The babies were nourished, nurtured, and received medical care. They learned to lap up affection form MDDB volunteers and quickly grew strong.
When they were old enough for adoption, they were taken to weekend adoption drives. In no time at all, Mickey’s five siblings – all big and strong now – found local homes. Only Mickey was consistently left behind. She was the runt, which was the initial issue. Later, there were more puppies saved from here and there – so many more, always so many in need – and they provided competition for Mickey at adoption drives, as she grew but they were replaced by a seemingly endless supply.
Meanwhile, Mickey’s loving and sweet nature – as well as her funny antics and adorable personality quirks! – had grown on one of MDDB’s main caretakers at its Klang halfway-home for dogs. Their mutual love of one another reduced the pressure to get Mickey adopted quickly, so she more often than not “sat out” adoption drives.
Mickey is such a sweet little girl. She is friendly and affectionate – ISDF founder Dawn met Mickey on a recent adoption drive and remembers how this friendly girl ran up to plant her front feet on Dawn and beg for pets and loving! She can be silly when she wants to and is very clever.
Mickey loves her caretaker friend and is social with the other dogs who live at the Klang halfway-home. However, living among so many other dogs in need, she is but one of many. And she has distinguished herself as a girl who clearly wants a home and a family to call her very own.
Mickey has waited two long years for her very own happy ending, and is growing a little depressed as time marches on.
ISDF would love to help her find that fairytale finish. We hope that her knight (or princess) in shining armor is out there, reading this right now, and will open up their castle to this sweet girl! Thank you for reading Mickey’s story and for holding her in your heart.

Mickey will be arriving into Chicago with Angel on February 19. If you are interested in finding out more about Mickey, please contact Dawn Trimmel at trimmel@usa.net or 414-426-4148.
