GREAT NEWS…. Nahla is HOME.

Nahla joined Darik and Angela Koltz of Poplar Grove, IL this week.  Nahla was rescued from Tunisia where she was used as a guard dog and chained outside 24/7 with very little to eat…. She went from a life of misery to a life of luxury with a very loving family who is thrilled to have her as part of their family.  A dream come true for a very loving and loyal girl.

Thank you to Yasmine and Azza Mallick of Yasmine Azaiez Animal Rescue for rescuing Nahla and making sure she had a better life.  Rescue work is never easy but when you are doing it in a country where dogs are not respected and there is very little local support it’s immensely challenging and emotionally draining work.  My deepest respect to the tireless dedication and effort of these women!

Most of all thank you to the Kotz’s for welcoming Nahla into their home and for loving her.  She will be eternally grateful and pay you back a million fold.

You too can save a life.

NAHLA’S RESCUE STORY (As written by her rescuer):

Hello, my name is Nahla and I am a one year old German Shepard. Until now, i have had a very difficult life and unfortunately, I was born Tunisia, a country which doesn’t appreciate my kind of dogs. To many, we are considered dangerous, dirty, useful to make money in dog fights and bait, a tasty meal and fun to torture or to serve merely as a watch dog. Since I was a young pup I never received any love, medical treatment, or shelter. Until recently, all I have ever known being chained on a short leash to a tree outside, rain or shine. My owners originally bought me to be a guard dog, but it is not in my nature to bark at strangers so I was not considered useful to them, especially since I got sick and began vomiting the meager amounts of food they fed me, so eventually they stopped feeding me entirely and left me to starve, still chained to my tree. A kind neighbor saw me sitting there in vain and brought me food once in a while but soon realized that I could not keep food down and quickly call the YASMINE AZAIEZ ANIMAL RESCUE!!! I was quickly brought to a shelter and given medical care, but they found out I needed a endoscopy and the only machine in Tunisia is broken. My only chance was to go abroad or I would die. I am so excited that the International Street dog foundation decided to accept me to give me the right medical care and to find a wonderful family in the States! I now have hope.

I am a happy, confident, and playful dog.  I will make an excellent companion and have a lot of love to give.  If you are interested in adopting Nahla please contact ISDF at info@istreetdog.com.  You can find ISDF’s adoption application here.
