GREAT NEWS…… Pepper aka Poppy is officially HOME!!! Poppy joined the family of Leslie Solem, Tom, and Lexie and …k-9 brother Champ (another ISDF Desi rescue).

Pepper is a rescue from the streets of New Delhi, India. She is a sweet little soul who was not intended to live out her days on the harsh streets. She traveled a long way to Chicago to find her happiness. Today her destiny was fulfilled and she is part of a loving family.

Pepper first met Champ at ISDF when he was over for an extended visit while his mom was out of town. They got along well and I sent her mom videos of the two. A seed was planted which turned into a foster to adopt once Leslie returned from her vacation.

Today Leslie shares the wonderful news that Pepper was home to stay. Champ and Pepper have become the best of friends. Leslie tells me that she is sweet and calm and is a perfect match for Champ who is more high energy. They balance each other well and she has fit in perfectly with her family.

Thank you to all who have helped Pepper in her journey, especially Isobel Grant and Aarti Bhardwaj – Pepper’s guardian angels who have made this happy ever after possible for Pepper. Most importantly, thank you to Leslie and family for welcoming Pepper into their home and hearts.

Poppy’s rescue

Poppy is a rescue from the streets of New Delhi, India.  On 9 January 2016, Isobel was driving to Happy Paws to make her weekly visit. When she reached the top of the road where Happy Paws was situated, she noticed a rake thin dog scavenging for food on a rubbish tip.  Isobel stopped the car and went over to the tip where she could see Poppy desperately searching for food.  Isobel called Arti who came to the tip and gently persuaded Poppy to come to her.  Upon catching Poppy she was transferred to Isobel’s car and driven to Happy Paws.  Poppy was treated for the early stages of Canine Distemper Virus (CDV) but quickly picked up on receiving medication and is now a healthy girl putting on weight.

About Poppy

Poppy is quite shy with humans but wags her tail and tentatively comes towards you. She has a quiet and gentle disposition and is steadily gaining in confidence.  She loves playing with the other dogs now but was a little afraid at first.  We are sure that Poppy will continue to gain in confidence so that she could make a warm and gentle companion to a family.

Poppy arrived into Chicago on June 10th with Cherry to find their forever homes.   She is a total sweetheart and has a very calm nature.  She is a little shy and probably not sure what’s going on with so much recent change but she is curious to new people and will tentatively approach.  Once she realizes you mean no harm she will be your shadow.  She sweetly approaches and seems to melt at the slightest affection.   Makes you want to wrap her in her arms and hold her forever.  Tell her she is safe and will be taken care of forever. She does great with other dogs and is extremely low maintenance.  She has wonderful house manners and is cage trained. She will make a very loving loyal companion to a very lucky family.  If you are interested in adopting please contact Dawn at info@istreetdog.com or call at 414-426-4148.  You can find our adoption applications here.
